The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has received approval from the National Universities Commission to run six new undergraduate programmes, taking effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The newly approved full time programmes are Bachelor of Science degrees in Geophysics, Public Health, Biotechnology, Science Laboratory Technology, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Clothing and Textile.

Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, Olasunkanmi Olajide, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the approval followed a successful resource assessment visit by the commission to evaluate the university's readiness and the availability of required human and material resources for the proposed programmes.

In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Executive Secretary of the NUC conveyed the commission's approval for the establishment of the programmes after a thorough consideration of the outcome of the resource assessment exercise, the statement read.

The university described the development as another milestone in its drive to expand academic offerings, enhance manpower development and respond to emerging national and global needs in science, technology, health and sustainable development.

FUNAAB added that the approval reinforced its reputation as a leading institution dedicated to academic excellence, innovation and the production of highly skilled graduates. "With the addition of the six programmes, the University is further strengthening its reputation as a leading institution dedicated to academic excellence, innovation, and the production of highly skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development," the statement noted.

The institution said the approval underscored its commitment to equipping graduates with relevant skills across critical sectors of national development.
