The National Association of Nigerian Students has announced the reinstatement of James Adio, the suspended Students Union Government President of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, following high level engagement between NANS and the university's management.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, confirmed the development in a post on X on Wednesday, stating that the university Senate had given Adio's case fair consideration. "Finally, Comrade Adio, the FUOYE SUG President, has been officially reinstated," Babatunde wrote.
The reinstatement followed sustained talks between NANS and the university authorities over disciplinary actions taken against Adio and other affected students. Babatunde had earlier disclosed that the university Senate was scheduled to deliberate on Adio's case, expressing confidence that the process would serve the interests of both justice and his academic progress. "The University Senate will convene on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, to give Comrade James Adio fair consideration and the necessary support that will serve both the interest of justice and his academic pursuits going forward," he stated.
Babatunde confirmed that, beyond Adio's reinstatement, other previously suspended students had also been reinstated and permitted to sit for their examinations following the intervention.
The student body described the outcome as the result of persistent engagement with university management, with NANS positioning its involvement as a broader effort to protect students facing disciplinary actions across institutions.
Adio's reinstatement marks a resolution to a dispute that had drawn national student union attention to governance and disciplinary processes at the Federal University Oye Ekiti.
