Government Model School in Makurdi, Benue State, has received a fully equipped information and communication technology centre from Keystone Bank Limited, in a move the bank described as part of its commitment to improving digital access in underserved communities.
The facility, fitted with laptops, workstations, ergonomic seating, air conditioning and an inverter powered energy system, was handed over at a ceremony attended by state government officials and education sector stakeholders.
Representing Governor Hyacinth Alia at the event was the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Deborah Serumun Abeeh. Others in attendance included the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Margaret Adamu; Commissioner for Science and Technology, James Dwem; Commissioner for ICT, Kwaghgba Amande; and the Central Bank of Nigeria branch controller, Olabitan Adebowale.
The Executive Director, North and Public Sector of Keystone Bank, Abubakar Usman Bello, stated that the donation reflects the bank's position on education as a driver of national growth.
"Education remains one of the strongest foundations for any thriving society. It shapes minds, creates opportunities, and prepares the next generation of leaders," he said.
Bello added that the bank views investment in education not merely as a responsibility but as a strategic contribution to national development.
The bank's Northern Regional Head, Bala Umar, noted that the project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education, and is designed to close infrastructure gaps and prepare students for a technology driven economy.
"We believe access to ICT facilities is critical to modern education and future workforce readiness," he stated.
Barrister Abeeh, conveying the governor's appreciation, described the initiative as a reflection of strong commitment to human capital development and called on other private sector organisations to follow the bank's example.
"This kind of partnership between the private sector and government is essential for sustainable development. We encourage more organisations to emulate this laudable initiative," she said.
The Principal of Government Model School, Dr. Robert Apir, described the centre as a major boost to academic development, noting it would support digital examination processing and improve computer literacy among staff and students. He assured that the facility would be properly maintained and optimally utilised.
