Lead City University has claimed first place at an inter University debate competition hosted by Fountain University on April 29, 2026, defeating eight other tertiary institutions with a score of 84.6% to clinch the top prize in one of Nigeria's most competitive student intellectual contests.

The motion debated, "The media is responsible for the rise of moral decadence among youths," drew participation from prominent institutions including the University of Ibadan, Redeemer's University, Osun State University, and several others across the country.

Bodunde Ebenezer Olayemi of Lead City University was named Best Speaker Overall, with judges recognising his articulation, logical reasoning, and command of argumentation as exceptional throughout the contest.

The Lead City University team also comprised Khaerat Muhammed Raji and Sharon Chimuayan Azaka, whose coordinated delivery the university community credited as central to the institution's commanding performance on the day.

Redeemer's University finished second with 77%, followed by Osun State University at 71.4%. Fountain University, the host institution, placed fourth with 70.9%, and the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun recorded 70.5%. Al Hikmah University scored 67.1%, while the University of Ibadan returned 63.3%.

The Lead City University contingent was guided by coaches Dr. Anthony Amedu and Miss Deborah Anuoluwapo Demurin. The Lead City Intellectual and Debating Society, led by Abraham Adeniyi, also provided institutional support ahead of the competition.

Members of the University community disclosed that the victory reflected the institution's strengthening capacity in public speaking, critical thinking, and student intellectual development, noting that the result was consistent with Lead City University's broader academic direction.

The win adds to the University's record of active engagement in intellectual and leadership development platforms across Nigeria.
