The National Association of Nigerian Students has visited the management of Lagos State University of Education, Otto Ijanikin, presenting formal requests for the resuscitation of a democratic Students' Union and the construction of a Students' Union Government secretariat building.

The delegation was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji Okuneye, and members of the university management at the Vice Chancellor's office. During her welcome remarks, Lafiaji Okuneye provided a brief history of the institution, noting that LASUED had produced its first set of graduating students and is preparing for its maiden convocation ceremony. She reaffirmed the university's commitment to students' welfare and described management as responsive to genuine student needs.

The NANS Secretary General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, commended the university for maintaining a disciplined and safe learning environment, as well as its zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment. He also acknowledged that employment opportunities were extended to alumni of the university's legacy college who had previously served as student leaders.

Uthman presented three formal requests to management: the resuscitation of a democratic Students' Union, the construction of a Students' Union secretariat and expanded employment opportunities for student leaders where applicable.

The Chief of Staff to the NANS Secretary, Comrade Adegboye Adeboye, urged students to avoid drug abuse and cultism. He highlighted NANS partnerships with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, describing the collaborations as central to safeguarding campuses and promoting responsible student conduct.

In her response, Lafiaji Okuneye commended the delegation for their maturity and constructive engagement, stating that the requests would receive due consideration following necessary consultations. She also urged students to direct concerns through NANS rather than spreading unverified information on social media.

The visit concluded with the decoration of Lafiaji Okuneye as a NANS National Ambassador Against Social Vices, in recognition of her administration's firm stance against misconduct among students.
