Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt has acknowledged the receipt of ₦809,325,700 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, covering tuition loans for 4,649 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The disbursement, identified as the second batch of payments under the scheme with reference IAUEPHSL11, forms part of the Federal Government's ongoing effort to expand access to higher education through structured student financing.
Vice Chancellor Prof Okechukwu Onuchuku confirmed the payment in a formal statement, describing the intervention as a significant relief for students facing financial constraints and noting that its impact was already visible on campus.
"The support provided by NELFUND is a clear demonstration of commitment to advancing education and empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders," the statement read.
Onuchuku noted that beneficiaries had begun to experience improved morale and motivation, enabling them to focus more fully on academic work without the pressure of tuition related financial burdens.
The vice chancellor also commended NELFUND's professionalism and consistency in the disbursement process, describing the fund's approach as a tested and trusted process worthy of recognition.
NELFUND was established to provide accessible financing for students in tertiary institutions and has been scaling up disbursements across universities nationwide, with a focus on reducing financial barriers to higher education.
The IAUE payment adds to a growing list of institutions that have received funds under the scheme, as authorities position student loans as a central pillar of Nigeria's education funding strategy.
