Nigeria has moved to a fully electronic system for the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, with the Federal Ministry of Education announcing that all applications will henceforth be processed strictly online through an official government portal.

The announcement was contained in a press statement signed by Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, on Thursday.

Boriowo stated that the development aligns with the Federal Government's digital transformation agenda and the Ministry's commitment to deploying modern technology to improve efficiency, ensure data integrity, and support evidence based policy decisions across the education sector.

Under the new system, applicants seeking authentication or evaluation of their academic credentials are required to register and upload all relevant supporting documents through the Ministry's official verification portal at essverify.education.gov.ng.

Applicants are also directed to contact their awarding institutions and request that academic transcripts be forwarded directly from the institutions' official email addresses to ess1@education.gov.ng for verification and processing.

"With the introduction of the new system, all applications for authentication and evaluation of academic credentials will now be processed strictly online through the Ministry's official verification portal," Boriowo stated.

The Ministry confirmed that applicants are no longer required to visit its offices in person, as the entire verification process will now be conducted electronically from start to finish.

"This transition to a fully automated platform is expected to simplify procedures, reduce processing time, and further strengthen the integrity and credibility of academic credential verification in Nigeria," the statement added.

The Ministry described the shift as part of broader efforts to strengthen transparency, improve data management, and enhance public service delivery within the education sector.
