Renewed xenophobic violence against Nigerians in South Africa has drawn a sharp response from a Nigerian student body, with the National Association of Nigerian Students threatening to mobilise against South African corporate interests operating in Nigeria.

The Southwest Zone D chapter of the association, led by Comrade Adeyemo Kayode, issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday, announcing plans to organise peaceful picketing and mass advocacy targeting major South African corporations, including MTN Group and MultiChoice Group.

Kayode framed the latest killings as part of a broader, recurring pattern rather than an isolated incident, describing it as "a painful reminder of a recurring pattern of hostility and violence against our people." The association maintained that the continued targeting of Nigerians under any guise was unacceptable and demanded an immediate end to the attacks.

The group challenged the moral basis for South African businesses to operate freely in Nigeria while Nigerians faced violence abroad. "It is morally indefensible for businesses to thrive in an environment where the lives of Nigerians are protected, while Nigerians are subjected to fear and violence elsewhere. This contradiction will no longer be tolerated," the statement read.

The association directed its demands at the South African government and relevant authorities, urging them to demonstrate a genuine commitment to protecting foreign nationals and ensuring justice in all reported cases of violence. "Silence, delayed responses, or symbolic gestures will not suffice. The safety, dignity, and rights of Nigerians must be guaranteed, not negotiated," Kayode's statement warned.

Despite the combative tone, the association indicated a willingness to pursue dialogue. It disclosed that Southwest Zone D remained open to engagement with South African business representatives, diplomatic channels, and international stakeholders, provided concrete action followed. "However, we make it clear that Nigerian students will not stand idly by while the lives of their compatriots are endangered. This is a moment for accountability, responsibility, and decisive action," the statement concluded.
