Senior officials of the Federal University of Health Sciences Ila Orangun gathered on 28 April 2026 to address its pioneer MBBS students following the release of their first major examination results, urging those who fell short to treat the outcome as motivation rather than defeat.
The sensitisation session brought together key academic and administrative leaders who delivered a unified message on resilience, discipline, and the demands of a medical education. The Sub Dean of Students Affairs, Zainab Oduola, and the Director of Academic Planning, Simiat Jimoh, encouraged students to remain consistent and embrace the rigour of the programme.
The Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Folarin Malomo, and the Provost of the College of Medicine, Oyeku Oyelami, told students that examination results are not final judgments of ability but stepping stones toward professional growth.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Monsuru Adeleke, reinforced the message, urging the pioneer cohort to build mental strength and academic discipline as the Institution continues to set high standards. He noted that FUHSI remains committed to producing world class medical professionals and that resilience is a non negotiable trait in the field.
Students who did not perform as expected were advised to seek academic support and approach subsequent assessments with greater focus and preparation.
A significant moment at the session was the recognition of students who earned distinction grades in foundational courses, including Physiology and Biochemistry. The awardees were students with matriculation numbers 2022/MBBS/037, 2022/MBBS/058, 2022/MBBS/062, 2022/MBBS/076, 2022/MBBS/080, 2022/MBBS/096, and 2022/MBBS/067. Bakiyah Okedeji emerged as the overall best performer across Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry.
University officials reiterated that while the MBBS programme is demanding, the Institution will continue to provide guidance and support to help students succeed as it works to build not only academic competence but also character in its future medical professionals.
