Newly sworn In corps members of the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation exercise in Plateau State have been urged to reject divisive narratives and position themselves as agents of national unity, as Governor Caleb Mutfwang reaffirmed the state government's commitment to their safety.
The Governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Kenneth Buenyen, addressed corps members at the swearing in ceremony on Friday, describing them as ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration, and catalysts for social and economic progress.
Mutfwang characterised the National Youth Service Corps as an enduring platform for national cohesion, stressing that participation in the scheme carried responsibilities beyond the one year programme. He charged the corps members to pay close attention to all orientation course content and comply with the by laws of the scheme.
"Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service and perform your duties with diligence," he urged, adding that they should shun misinformation and sentiments capable of undermining collective unity.
The governor also addressed security concerns directly, reassuring the corps members that his administration was working closely with security agencies to maintain peace across the state. "Let me assure you that your safety and well being are top priorities for my administration. We would continue to work closely with all relevant security agencies to safeguard peace and stability throughout the state," he stated.
NYSC State Coordinator Jonathan Yavala separately urged the corps members to engage fully in all camp activities, with particular attention to the skills acquisition programme, describing it as preparation for both the service year and life beyond it. Yavala also commended the Plateau State Government for its continued support of the NYSC scheme.
