The Governing Council of the University of Medical Sciences has ratified the promotion of six academic staff members to the professorial cadre. The decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of the council held on Wednesday.

Five Readers were elevated to the rank of full professors, while a Senior Lecturer was promoted to the position of Reader. The newly appointed professors include Lawal Oyeneyin and Michael Gbala from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Joshua Babayemi from Biosciences and Biotechnology, Edosa Uhumwangho from Biochemistry, and Adegbiji Atilade from Surgery. Dr Kayode Adepoju of the Department of Health Information Management was also promoted from Senior Lecturer to Reader.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, described the promotions as a testament to sustained academic excellence. She noted that the honourees distinguished themselves through rigorous scholarship and dedicated service. She stated that the elevation is a reward for years of hard work and an acknowledgement of their role in advancing knowledge and strengthening the Institution's reputation.

While congratulating the scholars, the Vice Chancellor urged them to view the recognition as a call to greater responsibility. She encouraged them to sustain their momentum and continue pushing the boundaries of research and professional practice. She said, "The University and the global community need your expertise now more than ever," adding that their continued dedication will inspire younger academics and contribute significantly to national development.
