The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Federal Government to strengthen security and repair critical infrastructure around Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED) in Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, following a solidarity visit to the institution.
The delegation, led by NANS Secretary General Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, met with university management headed by Vice Chancellor Professor Oladipo Samuel, raising concerns about deteriorating road access to the campus and growing security threats facing students and staff.
Uthman described the access road to TASFUED as being in a deplorable condition that undermines the nstitution's functionality and development, noting that the poor road network poses serious risks to students, staff, visitors and other road users.
The delegation also visited the Abapawa Police Post, the security formation responsible for coverage of the university environment, where officers engaged the team in discussions on the security architecture surrounding the institution. The Head of the Police Post urged students to exercise caution in both online and physical transactions, warning against sharing sensitive personal information with unknown individuals and advising vigilance against criminal activity and fraud.
While commending the officers at the post for their work despite operational constraints, Uthman pressed for the upgrade of the Abapawa Police Post to a fully functional Police Divisional Headquarters, citing the Institution's strategic importance, its growing student population and increasing security demands in the area.
NANS framed the visit as part of its ongoing engagement with Tertiary Institutions across Nigeria to assess student welfare conditions and push for sustainable solutions to challenges affecting the academic community.
The Association's National Secretariat has since issued a formal call to the Inspector General of Police, the Federal Government, and relevant security agencies to take immediate action on both the security and infrastructure concerns raised during the visit.
