Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has been honoured with the Distinguished Ambassador of the Library Excellence Award at Obafemi Awolowo University, as the institution's Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library marked its 2026 Library Week with a ceremony held at Oduduwa Hall.

Conferring the award, Vice Chancellor Professor A. S. Bamire described Momodu as a doyen of Nigerian journalism whose influence continues to shape national discourse and inspire generations, noting that his career has consistently projected Nigeria positively on the global stage.

"Chief Dele Momodu represents the very best of Nigerian journalism, courage, intellect, and consistency," Bamire stated, adding that his contributions to public discourse, democracy, and the mentorship of young journalists remain immeasurable.

A former journalist serving in the Vice Chancellor's Office also delivered an emotional tribute, describing Momodu as a towering figure whose influence has shaped both careers and convictions.

"Chief Dele Momodu is not just a journalist; he is a movement, a school, and an enduring reference point for excellence," he disclosed, recalling personal encounters he described as masterclasses in depth, clarity, and professional insight.

The Nigerian Union of Journalists equally recognised Momodu as a figure whose contributions have strengthened the profession and enhanced its global relevance, while Dr Adeagbo described the recognition as well deserved.

"We are celebrating not just a journalist, but an institution in himself," Dr Adeagbo noted, emphasising his consistent use of media to inform, educate, and positively influence society.

The event, themed "Building a Knowledge Society: Library and Information as Variables in Academia Industry Performance," also featured the inauguration of the H.O. Library Club, with Momodu serving as Guest Reader. His portrait, prominently displayed at the venue, symbolised a career defined by excellence, resilience, and lasting impact in Nigerian journalism.
